WHO: Equality New Mexico (EQNM) staff, volunteers, supporters and members of the LGBTQ community

WHAT: EQNM - New Mexico’s oldest and largest LGBTQ advocacy organization - will be active at this year’s Pride Parade, PrideFest and Family Pride Celebration at Morningside Park. The primary objectives are voter registration and engagement, and gathering petition signatures to support the following policy priorities: paid sick leave in Albuquerque, a statewide ban on conversion therapy, passage of the New Mexico Safe Schools for All Students Act, and legislation to remove the public announcement of name change requirement and the surgery requirement for gender marker change on birth certificates.

WHERE & WHEN:

Pride Parade
Central Avenue (Girard to EXPO New Mexico)
10 a.m., Sat. June 11

PrideFest
EXPO New Mexico
11 a.m., Sat. June 11

Family Pride Celebration
Morningside Park (Morningside & Lead)
11 a.m., Sat. June 11

WHY: Equality New Mexico’s work did not end with same sex marriage. LGBTQ New Mexicans still experience discrimination, lack of acceptance from family, peers, co-workers and the general public, and a policy environment that obstructs equality under the law and quality of life. The events are to draw awareness to the issues and solutions.
